1535nm erbium glass applied into laser rangefinders

Long-distance laser rangefinders have characters with low power consumption, small size and high in accuracy and safety. Currently, 1064nm emission wavelength, generally applied into laser rangefinders, is harmful for our retina and will bring hidden problems for our safety. Therefore, it is necessary to develop 1535nm eye-safe lasers and it will become a inevitable trend for future industry in photon-electricity field. 1535nm eye-safe laser has applied in hand-held laser rangefinders, pods, and frontier monitoring.

Ranging process of laser rangefinders is showing as following. It consists of four parts-laser transmitting module, optical transceiver system, laser receiving system, and signal processing system. Erbium glass solid-state lasers, has applied into eye-safe laser rangefinders, is able to produce 1535nm laser with hundreds μJ, low repetition rate and narrow pulse width. To get accurate ranging information, it takes InGaAs APD as detector and TDC to measure flying time.
