Coherent combining technology of ultrashort pulse

For high power ultrashort pulse laser, it contributes great values on scientific research, industrial production and biomedical field. Typical system of coherent combining technology of ultrashort pulse is shown as the figure 1.

Laser seeds pulse will be divided into several pulse, then its power will be amplified by AMP, all the split pulse will combine into one to rise pulse energy and power. In order to avoid nonlinear effect, CPA technology will be applied to widen laser seeds pulse first for power amplification, then to compress pulse width. There are three ways to achieve coherent combining of ultrashort pulse: spatial coherent combining , divided-pulse amplification(DPA), and pulse stack.

In terms of spatial coherent combining(figure 1(a)), the basic technic is as same as continuous laser. Laser seeds are divided by splitter, each split one is amplified by phase modulator and power amplifier and finally combine as one integration.

The second way is DPA(figure 1(b)) that divides laser pulse into each laser sequence which are separated and not affected by each other. These laser sequences will combine into laser pulse to rise peak power of output pulse.

Pulse stack(figure 1(c)) can make multi pulses stack into one pulse which can be achieved by GTI and SND(stack-and-dump).

It is almost the same time that coherent combining technology and lasers are invented, which have obtained significant achievement on 10.3kw ultra-fast fiber laser coherent combining and 100-channel large arrays fiber laser coherent combining, and realized its value on laser frequency conversion, laser radar and laser guide star. Continuously update technology of lasers provide new light source for coherent combining, in return, rising luminance of light source relies on coherent combining technology.
